I walked in black forests
tangled messes of branches cutting into me
but you were my aged and wise guide
pushing me through an uncertain fate,
you would never chance losing me amongst the tragedies.
I hid safely under sheets of dreams
with your eyes staring soft and vivid through my dusty broken window panes,
carefully watching me as I slept.
I depended on your warm iridescent light
when the world was dark, cold
and no one would pick me up
from where I fell.
I miss you each time
morning's overbearing hand crushes you
and I had to stand alone
under it's cruel heat, sweating in shakey fear
for your body was no longer shading my secrets.
I long for you, my moon
to hum soft lullabies into the wind
to sing through my hair
and coat my empty heart in forgiveness
and for you to trace my jagged footsteps to
nowhere safe.
